Updates of sorts and some new stuff
Jan. 26th, 2026 09:37 amMultitudes of updates:
Definitely entered an unholy alliance with the Davions, in that I'm starting to like them. Allow me to be super clear here, there are no good factions in Battletech. None. Anyone who tells you their faction are good, are selling you something. Goes double for your own. There are good people in Battletech, good characters, definitely good players, in fact, most of the players I've encountered are marvelous. But factions? Yeah, what flavor of authoritarianism, war crimes, social, economic, and educational manipulation, or combination thereof can you live with?
Turns out G was even funnier with his letter than previously believed- he had quipped that it had been decades since one could promise the Capellan Confederation as a gift, as it was harder to conquer these days, so he was giving me these. 'These' were predominantly Capellan mechs available in the Magistracy.
I'm a goldfish with ADHD, G, you don't have to try to make me like you, I already remember your face and your name at the same time, you win.
I think I explained earlier that I had initially started playing in the hopes of going to Adepticon this spring with Partner because he went to GalaxyCon with me last year to see Con O'Neil and the CanyonFam, and ended up managing me and much of the trip (which I had fortunately already setup before I got sick).
Speaking of friends, we have Genghis Con coming up! One of our friendly, local gaming conventions. Brian Young and Michael Stackpole are both coming out to play Battletech and chill. I am signed up to play in at least one game that they might play in. I look forward to encountering some Stackpole radiation.
I'm not an experienced player, and while I have a group I could game with every Tuesday night, I am also dead by evening and math is already hard. So I get a game most Saturdays, and the Wolf's Dragoons league once a month. While I don't play much, the rest of the group plays a lot. They're getting into Aerospace, tanks, other random things. A lot of fun stuff. One of the things the group does a lot of is combined arms. Well, baby did her first combined arms last night, with Tanks! and Battle Armor! and VTOLS! Kerensky wept, my brain hurts. But it was fun! I got to use some of the things that G gave me, because he decided I needed EVERYTHING, so I got everything, including battle armor, a tank, an industrial mech, something better suited to Solaris than the 2nd Fusiliers, and some really solid mechs- possibly he got tired of my 55 ton brigade every Saturday. Listen, the Wolverine is a good mech, okay? (Also, I took a Wolverine to Solaris, don't judge me.)

I got to check out my new Garage for my mechs too. The Warganizer Dockling Bay, but I'm calling it the Garage, because of the rolling door. It's super cute. I had the older model, and Partner made me the new one, and the old one is now a mech painting station. I don't think anyone reads these, but if you want to see it, drop a message, and I'll get some pics.
Speaking of Adepticon, we are GO! (and we'll be meeting up with G while we're there, but G is actually going to be playing competitively and I'm going to politely cheer him on and not embarrass him). Details at some point.
Also, apparently my small unit tactics are holding up well, and I am considered a shockingly good team player, despite running my mouth and landing more F-bombs than the Taurians dropped nukes during the Reunification War, I apparently undersell myself so much that since they never see me they don't expect that I can plan a good line of attack/defense. I want to make it clear, I was a mediocre fighter at best, and I can see what needs done, but the best you could say about me was I didn't suck. I run a conservative game and slower, beefier mechs that can take some abuse. When I'm not the only game on the field, I can definitely hold up my end of the bargain. Note to self, one or two mechs at a time is what I can handle.

I promised the Hanse Davion meme when I found it, and here it is:

Remember {new guy} who caused all the uproar in our State Battletech Discord? There's an update:
I said he was on our FLGS discord as well, and he was being watched by the Techers there, but we couldn't do anything because it's the store's discord, and they're really relaxed about who can be on there (they host 40k and MtG, they don't react until they have to drop the banhammer) Well, turns out, the state discord did not act out of turn in banning him. He got into it on the FLGS discord, starting religious shit of all things around the holidays, commenting that the atheists and queers needed to stay out of the holidays and making all kinds of religious nonsense posts that have since been scrubbed from the server.
Did I mention that there's an LGBTQ+ evening board game group that is the store's biggest money maker, running concurrently with the second biggest money maker, the Battletech group? making Tuesdays their largest event night and the night that they tend to pander to, not least of which because it's all adults who clean up after themselves and take care of the store. They even opened the store for a Wednesday night for LGBTQ+ to have Xmas eve at the store, because it's a vulnerable population, and the Battletechers came too. 30 boardgamers and 8 Battletechers showed up on christmas eve for sugar cookies, white elephant, and Muppet Christmas Carol on a Wednesday after being there the night before for our regular night.
I don't think it's a surprise where the banhammer hit when push came to shove, especially when he decided he needed to talk back to the events coordinator at the store. Not the person that comes in on Tuesdays, oh, no, he does overall coordination. The guy is banned banned. So much for "socially awkward", looks more like active troll to me.
Also, should {Remaining guy} have the balls to show up at Genghis, I promise, full Canopian. The guy's going to wonder if he forgot to pay the Phone Company.* Customer. Service. Voice.
*and by the Phone Company, I do mean ComStar. I'm running a second** conspiracy theory that they're still out there, you should still pay your phone bill. Just in case.
**My first conspiracy theory is that there are only about 150 Taurians out there, and anything else you hear is drone ships, fire ships, nukes, Davion paranoia, Davian propaganda to get more mechs/cover up why they got beat by 150 Taurians, and Taurian propaganda to keep from becoming the Taurian Marches.
